ONS Mentoring Programs

I am passionate about my patients and what I can do for them. I am in the stage to mentor other nurses to do the same.

One of the initiatives that ONS has undertaken is a formal mentoring program for oncology nurse professionals.

Joining is easy. To enroll, visit www.3creekmentoring.com/ONS to start the process and select the appropriate group code from below based upon the role you would like to play:

If you would like to participate as a mentor please use the following mentee group code when creating your account: 532398
If you would like to participate as a mentor please use the following mentor group code when creating your account: 361812

Mentoring relationships officially begin once a mentee creates an account and begins a relationship by defining their learning needs.  Mentees will then be able to search the data base of available mentors.  Mentees are even able to search the list of available mentors based upon specific criteria using the Advanced Sorting Options (e.g. Special Interest Groups).  The matching list will provide mentees with choices based on how well a mentor’s profile matches their development needs.  Once a mentee finds a potential mentor, they can extend an invitation to that mentor through the Open Mentoring® system to be their mentor.  The potential mentor will receive an email invitation and either accept or decline the invitation.  Once a mentor accepts the invitation, the mentee will be notified via email and need to organize the first meeting and drive the relationship moving forward.

Mentoring relationships can be either short or long in duration. However, participants should be willing to make a minimum commitment of one hour per month to their mentoring partner.

Benefits of being a mentor:

  • Expanded personal networks
  • Increased transference of expertise and experience
  • Increased ability to translate values and strategies into productive actions
  • Extensive information about the larger organization
  • Opportunity to invest in the future of oncology nursing
  • Accelerated development and growth

Benefits of being a mentee:

  • Complete a fast, thorough analysis of developmental needs
  • Create personal developmental plans
  • Find mentors whose expertise matches your needs
  • Build knowledge and skill
  • Engage in developmental relationships that provide for personal and professional growth
