Education FAQ

Does ONS offer scholarships for nurses who are going to school?
The ONS Foundation, a not-for-profit affiliate of ONS, offers a variety of scholarships and grants that can be used for professional continuing education, or academic education at the bachelor's, master's, or doctoral levels. You'll find a complete list of scholarships and grants, and the application criteria, in the Awards, Grants, and Scholarships booklet.

How can I find out more about ONS's many different awards, grants, and scholarships?
A wide variety of awards, grants, and scholarships are available through ONS, the ONS Foundation, and Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. Visit the Awards area for more information.

Where can I find continuing education on www.ons.org?
The Nursing Education area includes various links to numerous types of continuing nursing education (CNE) credits available online, such as virtual Congress and IOL, ONF and CJON CEs, and CEs available through a partnership with CancerSourceRN.

Is there a charge for online continuing education? If yes, then why?
ONS currently charges for online education opportunities, unless they are underwritten by an unrestricted educational grant. ONS tries to keep the cost of the educational opportunities at a minimum to cover the administrative fees involved in developing and maintaining the programs. As an accredited provider of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation and the California Board of Registered Nursing, ONS also is required to keep detailed records of each event, monitor the quality of the programs, and pay fees to maintain its provider status through ANCC.

A goal of ONS is to keep membership dues as low as possible; therefore ONS must rely on other opportunities to continue to support the organization. One way this is accomplished is through the offering of educational activities at minimal costs to cover the expenses of the programs without raising ONS dues.

I'm trying to take an online continuing education test, but I've forgotten my username and password. How can I get them?
To access protected areas of www.ons.org, you need only enter your ONS membership ID number. However, www.ons.org does link to certain continuing nursing education (CNE) test that require a username and password. Separate organizations have created these CNEs, and they are not hosted at ONS. If a username and password are required to take the CNE, you must follow the instructions there. In addition, if you forget your username and password for this area, you will need to follow instructions found there to retrieve forgotten user information. ONS does not have access to this information.

Do the planning team members need to submit a biographical sketch?
Yes, we need a biographical sketch with vested interest declared for all planning team and faculty members.

How do I submit payment for an electronic application?
You may mail a check to ONS with the front page of your application to the ONS address on the application.

You may also submit credit card payment via telephone to the ONS Education and Cancer Care Issues Team at 412-859-6249.

How do I get information about corporate support?
Visit the corporate support area for more information and frequently asked questions.
