Pain Management Clinical Resource AreaHaving cancer does not always mean having pain. But, for those with pain there are many different pharmacologic and non -pharmacologic treatments available. It is important to remember that cancer pain can almost always be relieved. When our patients are free of pain, they enjoy their activities of daily living, be in the company of family and friends, and continue with their work. The patient is the best judge of their own pain. It is what they say it is. The Patients' Bill of Rights for Quality Cancer Care specifies pain relief as a right of all people with cancer. As an advocate, it is critical that nurses assess pain accurately and often. The resources compiled in this area will help keep the busy oncology nurse informed of the latest developments in pain research and nursing interventions for pain. |
