This ONS website is designed for patients and caregivers to provide information on learning about and managing common cancer treatment symptoms.

Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV)
Clinical practice resource area dedicated exclusively to the treatment of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). This resource area focuses on ways to minimize nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy. Prevention and control of nausea and vomiting is critical in the treatment of patients with cancer.

The content on this clinical resource area will help the oncology nurse understand these drugs and advocate for their use in clinical practice.

DVT
Patients with cancer are at increased risk for deep vein thrombosis (DVT). A DVT is defined as a blood clot in deep veins, commonly in the legs. The content here will provide an overview of DVTs and additional resources.

Fatigue
This clinical resource area focuses on information related to fatigue experienced by patients receiving oncology treatments.

Hematologic Toxicities

ONS clinical practice resource area dedicated exclusively to the hematologic side effects of cancer treatment via continuous infusion. This resource area focuses on neutropenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia.

Insomnia
A good night's sleep is important to healthy living, homeostasis, balance, and quality of life. According to the Sleep Foundation the loss of just one hour of sleep over a period of time can have a negative effect on many life processes. Sleep is an important contributor to quality of life for the healthy individual. Kvale and Shuster (2006) state that the prevalence of insomnia in Cancer patients is significantly higher than in the general population. (p.438). This resource area provides information on sleep disorders in the oncology patient.

Neurotoxicity
Peripheral neuropathy and cognitive impairment are potential oncologic complications of disease and treatment. These problems are disturbing and negatively impact the quality of life of patients at all stages of diseaseThis resource area provides a source of information on nuerotoxicities to nurses.

Oral Mucositis
This clinical resource area focuses on oral mucositis, also called stomatitis, a common, debilitating complication of cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy, occurring in about 40% of patients.

Pain Management
The resources compiled in this area will help keep the busy oncology nurse informed of the latest developments in pain research and nursing interventions for pain.
